Q&A

Can I watch my dog being groomed?

You can but please make a note in the appointment notes, or call to book. There are two levels to the Lakeview salon and without making a request in advance, there is no guarantee that your pet may be booked with a stylist upstairs.

How do I request a specific groomer for my dog?

Please type their name in the grooming notes when booking online, or call to book.

I have two dogs. Can they be groomed at the same time? Can they be finished at the same time?

You may call to book this appointment. We can find a time where two stylists have an opening at the same appointment slot so that the pets will be groomed at the same time.  Or if you would like both dogs to be groomed with the same pet stylist, we can book a larger time slot to accommodate two dogs with the same pet stylist.

What happens if I need my dog finished by a specific time, and I have to leave at that time?

Please let us know in advance of a time crunch. We can book your pet at the first time slot of the day, and also letting the receptionist and the pet stylist know that your dog needs to be finished by a certain time will allow us to reach this goal for you.

My dog is super scared, very nervous, can he be accommodated?

Yes, we recommend to book nervous pets on calmer days. We recommend early time slot on a Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays for scared pets. Friday and Saturdays are typically our busiest days.

What are the vaccination requirements for my dog?

Current proof of vaccines are required to be completed at least 48 hours before your appointment time. If your pet has a medical exception from the vet, a letter from the vet’s office or a titer test document may be presented and is the ONLY exception to this rule. While we expect all vaccination history to be current and valid, only rabies is required but for your pet’s health and safety, it is important to be current for all vaccinations.

My dog has tangles or is matted. What are my options?

Dashing Dog groomers only want the best for your pet, so if there is large swaths of matted hair that are too tight or too close to the skin to remove safely without causing pain to your pet, or damage to his skin, we may recommend shaving him down or shaving out those areas.

If your dog has some tangled areas that can be safely brushed out, there may be additional fees for Dematting to allow for the extra time that it takes the stylist.

We will try to identify these areas at check in but occasionally it is hard to spot until the blow dryer separates the hair, in those instances we will call you to inform you, we may even send you photos to help you see why it is in your pets best interest to shave it out.

If the stylist does not have the time available to complete extra brushing and dematting for your pet, we may ask you to reschedule to another day to allow more time.

You may also make the decision to brush your pet out at home and make a future appointment, and we can suggest brushes and tools to help you.

My dog cannot be kenneled, and I want an express grooming service. Can you accommodate this?

Please note in your booking that your pet cannot be kenneled and explain why. We may contact you to select a suitable time, ensuring the fastest possible service while maintaining your pet’s comfort.

Although we strive to groom each pet promptly, delays can happen if a previous dog requires extra care. For pets with special needs, we recommend booking on Sundays through Thursdays and avoiding high-traffic days like Fridays and Saturdays.

Information for New Pet Parents & Puppys

How should I prepare my puppy for grooming?

For the first visit, we recommend a bath package only to introduce your puppy to the grooming experience without overwhelming them. This includes a bath, blow dry, nail trim, and light trimming of the sanitary and paw areas. A full groom can be scheduled for the next visit.

Please make sure your puppy is up to date on all required vaccinations, including rabies. The appointment must be at least 48 hours after their last vaccine.

Can I train my puppy for grooming at home?

Yes! Here are some helpful tips:

  • Daily brushing: Use a comb to check for tangles and mats.
  • Paw handling: Gently hold and massage your puppy’s paws to get them used to touch.
  • Desensitization to vibrations: Use an electric toothbrush (with the brush head removed) to mimic clippers and nail grinders. Run the buzzing handle over their paws, legs, back, head, and neck to help them get accustomed to the sensation.

What brushes and tools do you recommend for new pet parents?

  • Doodles & Poodles: A slicker brush with 1-inch+ teeth and a large metal comb with fine and wide teeth.
  • Double-coated & shedding breeds: A slicker brush, metal comb, and a deshedding tool like a Furminator.
  • Short-coated & thin-coated breeds: A rubber curry brush (e.g., Kong Zoom Groom).
  • Long-haired dogs prone to tangling: A deshedding blade or rake can help, but use caution—these tools have sharp spokes and should never be used by children without supervision.

If you have any questions about grooming tools, feel free to ask our team!
